Legacy Awards 2008
The 2008 Legacy Awards Banquet was held on June 12 and included presentations highlighting each recipient.  Surprise video appearances were made by President Thomas S. Monson and Mitt Romney who congratulated Richard and Mary Headlee on receiving the Legacy Award.  The United Way's program Utah Saves and the Utah Homebuilders Association were also honored for their private initiative in promoting personal responsibility and defending private property rights.

Launch of Center for Educational Progress
On May 27, 2008, the Sutherland Institute announced the creation of The Center for Educational Progress.  This is the third of four centers launched by the Institute to help promote the common good by emphasizing the essential role of parents in education.

Earth Week 2008
From April 22-25, the Sutherland Institute hosted Earth Week 2008: The Future of UtahThe nation's top energy and climate experts delivered presentations focusing on the vital role that natural resources play when it comes to Utah's economic strength; the safety and affordability of nuclear power; the real reasons behind the increasing gas and food prices; and the limited effects of carbon dioxide on global warming.
