2012 Legislative Session

The 2012 general session of the Utah State Legislature will begin on Monday, Jan. 23, 2012. Against the backdrop of continuing state and national economic challenges, members of the House and Senate will be working to craft a budget for fiscal year 2013 that reflects revenue projections – an effort that will require a careful, bipartisan balancing of priorities. Legislators will also address many other issues important to the people of Utah.

Sutherland Institute will again strive to promote and support legislation consistent with its governing principles and policy priorities, and to modify or defeat proposed legislation that is not. Sutherland is grateful for the diligent efforts of legislators, informed and responsible citizens, and colleagues who seek to develop policy that makes Utah a better place to live, work and raise a family.

During the intensive, 45-day general session, the Institute encourages responsible citizens to engage the legislative process by taking time to learn about the bills under consideration and then contacting their senators and representatives to express their views about pending legislation of particular interest or concern. The Legislature’s home page, http://le.utah.gov, includes many links to timely information.
